If you’re feeling worried and worn out…
Many parents I work with care deeply about their children and have already tried many different approaches. Even with all of that effort, their child is still anxious, having big emotions, or struggling at home or school, and they’re not sure what else to do.
You may feel overwhelmed, unsure how to help, or concerned that you might be missing something important. Children experience challenges for many different reasons, and you don’t have to figure it out alone.
- Frequent meltdowns or big emotions
- Anxiety, trouble following directions, or school issues
- Changes after divorce, loss, adoption, or other big transitions
Play Is a Child’s Language
Instead of talking through problems like adults, children show us their thoughts and feelings through toys, stories, and play. In a safe, structured playroom, I help children:
Who I Help
If I am not the best fit or my schedule is full, I will help you find someone who is.
New Client Process Overview
Because my schedule is often close to full, I use a brief screening process to be sure I am the right fit and that I can offer the type of support you’re looking for.
-
Step 1 – Contact Me
New clients contact me first so we can decide together if we’re a good fit. After I receive your name, email, and phone number, I’ll send you a secure New Client Pre‑Screener form. You’ll share your concerns, background info, and what you hope to accomplish through therapy. -
Step 2 – Consultation
After reviewing your pre‑screener, I’ll contact you to schedule a brief consultation. We’ll discuss your concerns, answer questions, and determine whether my practice is the best fit for your needs. -
Step 3 – Intake & Treatment Planning
If we decide to move forward, we’ll schedule an intake session. During this time, we’ll gather more detailed background information, identify goals, and develop a treatment plan tailored to you and your family. -
Step 4 – Ongoing Therapy & Family Support
Ongoing treatment may include individual therapy, parent support, child‑parent sessions, family sessions, or a combination of services depending on treatment goals and clinical needs. -
Step 5 – Review & Adjust Over Time
As progress occurs, we’ll review goals, celebrate growth, and adjust treatment as needed to best support the client and family over time.
About Kyong Duncan, LPC
Before becoming a therapist, I spent 20 years as an elementary school teacher, supporting children and partnering with families through everyday challenges, school concerns, and important life transitions. Those years gave me a deep understanding of child development and the unique emotional, social, and academic needs children face.
After transitioning into the mental health field, I gained experience in community mental health before opening my private practice. Today, I specialize in play therapy and counseling for children, adolescents, and families.
My background in both education and counseling allows me to understand what children experience across the different environments that shape their lives. I enjoy working collaboratively with parents to help children develop emotional regulation, healthy coping skills, confidence, resilience, and stronger relationships.
I believe every child deserves a safe, supportive space where they feel seen, understood, and accepted. My goal is to help children grow emotionally while equipping parents with tools to better understand and support their child’s unique needs.
Faith-Friendly Approach
My Christian faith is an important part of who I am and naturally influences the compassion, hope, and care I bring to my work.
Every family is unique, and counseling is always tailored to your individual needs, values, and goals. If faith is important to your family, I’m happy to include it in a way that feels comfortable and meaningful to you. If not, you’ll receive the same evidence-based, compassionate care focused on helping you and your family grow, heal, and thrive.
Families of all faith backgrounds—and those with no religious affiliation—are always welcome.
